Sail Repair Videos
These short videos demonstrate the use of adhesive sail repair tape for the temporary repair of dacron sails.
We also cut the patch to form smooth round corners to avoid having a sharp square corner that may be caught by a loose running backstay or topping lift, and smooth out the patch after installation with a great deal of pressure (using a metal implement on a hard surface) to ensure maximum adhesion.
If you use this method to repair sails at sea during a long race, it can be difficult but you should try to clean the sail around the damage and dry it as best you can. I would also advise stitching around the edges of the patch if you need the sail and intend to use it to the limits of its design range.
Then get it to your sailmaker as soon as possible.
